Vusi Beauchamp. Exposé (2008)
Mixed media on board. 800 x 800mm
This series of paintings (from which the exhibition title is derived) is the fourth installment of Beauchamp’s Kaffer’s paradys series. Previous installments include: Kafferparadys: The fear of the young black man, Kafferparadys: Comic book (both exhibited at Godart Gallery in Johannesburg in 2006), and Kafferparadys: ten ways to kill a president (which took the form of a stage play presented at the Pretoria State Theatre in 2007. For this installment, a series of mixed media renderings of a stereotypical fear of the “other”, highlights the new status quo of the black elite, the poor and the constant surveillance and colonial worldview on the “other” through a schizophrenic view from a black artist.
Vusimuzi Mxolisi Beauchamp majored in Painting, completing his degree at the Tswhane University of Technology in 2005. His prolific artistic practice often involve collaborations across genres. He lives and works in Mamelodi.
