Artist's Statement
Through the in a day performance I attempt to create an awareness of the fast spread of the devastating HIV virus in South Africa by focusing on the amount of people that contract the HIV virus in a day, an amount that is immense and a cause for concern.
I base my information on a report broadcasted by the BBC World Service on World Aids Day, 1 December 2006. This information can also be obtained from the ‘AIDS Epidemic Update 1 December 2006’ report released by UNAIDS – a joint programme by the United Nations and the World Health Organisation.
in a day is a once off performance at Studio Bijou, organised by blank projects as part of X-Cape*
*X-CAPE is an artist-led programme of activities by artists and cultural
practitioners from across Cape Town and SA, to coincide with the CAPE 07
art event from 24 March – 02 May, 2007. X-CAPE showcases over 280
artists in 60 venues across 14 suburbs in the Cape Town Unicity.
