Pierre Fouche
EXCLUDED AND UNSAID
06/07/2005 - 27/07/2005
The first exhibition on show at blank projects is “Excluded and Unsaid” by Cape Town based artist Pierre Fouché:
“Excluded & Unsaid” is a work in progress -outlining the process of creating a monument (in the form of an as-yet-unfinished tapestry) for a mundane colour snapshot of two men on the beach. In view of Fouché’s previous work concerned with other mundane queer self-representations, this installment of supplementary artifacts (the residue of the as-yet-unfinished process) summarises quite a few of his artistic concerns: his relationship with family images; the tensions wrought when comparing images of men from the opposing camps of my domestic snapshot collections; image manipulation as a cathartic tool in dealing with these tensions; broader concerns with systems of categorization and the individual’s agency within these systems, and masculinity as one such system - all under the banner of Fouché’s ongoing reflection on the nature of desire between men.
